In this tour we are going to visit the Principality of Andorra, a small state of only 468 km2, located between France and Spain, in the middle of the Pyrenees.
\nEntirely mountainous, the main villages are found in the valleys, near Valira River. These are narrow valleys that appear to have glacial origins with lakes on the top of the mountains.<\/p>\n
The economy and daily life in Andorra until the middle of S.XX was basically rural, specializing in livestock. Agriculture was not very prominent due to lack of fertile land, with tobacco being the predominant crop. The only notable industry was the iron extraction.<\/p>\n
With the arrival of tourists, Andorra was transformed from an isolated and unknown country to one famous for its excellent ski slopes and for a huge commercial and financial boom. For this reason many shops and banks fill the bustling streets. Andorra\u2019s main attraction is low prices, because its taxes are lower than the neighboring countries. This status of tax paradise has powerfully influenced the spectacular growth.<\/p>\n
The quality life of among the local population is also optimal, with one of the highest life indexes in the world.<\/p>\n
Politically, Andorra is defined as a co-principality parliamentary government. The heads of the state are both: the Catholic bishop of the neighbor Catalan village Seu d\u2019Urgell and the President of the French Republic.<\/p>\n
In 1993, Andorra adopted a modern constitution. Until then it was run by traditional institutions inherited from the middle age, a true vestige of the feudal world.<\/p>\n
The administration is divided into seven “parroquias\u201d: Canillo, Encamp, Ordino, la Massana, Andorra la Vella and Sant Juli\u00e0 de Loria.<\/p>\n
Our intention on this tour is to show different views from this country full of contrast. So, we are going to walk around its shops and bazaars and enjoy its multiple and varied commercial offerings. We are also going to admire original constructions in the middle of a privileged mountain environment.<\/p>\n
Our departure is from Barcelona at 8:30am and we will travel through Catalunya from south to north until Andorra la Vella, the capital of Andorra. We will arrive about 12:00 noon.<\/p>\n
Once there, you will have free time to stroll and discover the city and its colorful shops at your leisure.<\/p>\n
Andorra la Vella together with Escaldes-engordany are the commercial core for excellence in the whole country. The main shops are located on one main road: Avda. Meritxell in Andorra la Vella and its extension called Avenida Carlemany by which you enter Escaldes-engordany.<\/p>\n
Mostly, all shops are open at noon. Also you will find many gastronomic possibilities in the city.<\/p>\n
Andorra la Vella has maintained a perfect alignment between the traditional architecture of the Valley and the most avant-garde, with buildings like Caldea, a thermo-leisure center, pioneer in its design of glass sharp edges that other buildings have actually imitated.<\/p>\n
After that visit we will go to Ordino<\/b>, an example of a typical mountain village in Andorra. A walk through the streets will help us to observe with what simplicity, efficiency and care the secular traditions are maintained alongside a quality tourism industry.<\/p>\n
At 17:30pm we will return to Andorra la Vella<\/b>, where at 18:00pm we are going to pick up those who wanted spend all day in the capital. The expected arrival in Barcelona is about 21:00pm.<\/p>\n
This tour has been designed to show the most representative sites of Andorra and to try to discover this eclectic country. It is basically an urban excursion. We are not going to walk through mountain paths, but the whole day you will be surrounded by a magnificent mountain panorama.<\/p>\n
